Bluetooth Connection Troubleshooting

Best Practices:

  • Whenever you turn Proteus on or are going to use it, hold the “play” and “minus” buttons simultaneously on the controller until the blue light starts to flash and wait for it to connect. The connection process can take up to 30 seconds, and successful connection will be indicated by a short blue flash on the controller.
  • Connection status can be checked in the Configure Proteus page under “Dongle -> controller connection status”.
    • If the status is “Connected and ready for use”, controller is connected and working properly.
    • If the status is “Paired + waiting for response…”, the controller is paired properly but not yet connected.
    • If the status is “Ready to pair with a new controller”, the controller is not paired properly. Follow the instructions in the “Bluetooth BLE Dongle Installation” document to pair the controller. If none are there and the page instead

If your controller Never connects

  1. Ensure that the controller has battery life by holding the “play” and “minus” buttons simultaneously for a few seconds.
    1. If a blue light starts flashing on the controller, the controller has battery life. If no light shows up, try a second time.
    2. If after two tries no light shows up, the controller battery has died. Contact the Proteus team to request a new battery for the controller.
  2. If the flashing blue light does show up, navigate to the Configure Proteus page to check on bluetooth connection status. Ensure that the controller is paired properly with the unit.
  3. If the controller is paired and not connecting, do a full restart of Proteus and check that the controller connects on startup.
  4. If the restart doesn’t help, check that the dongle is plugged into the tablet properly. Unplug and replug the dongle, ensuring it is plugged into the blue USB 3.0 port on the tablet. Instructions for how to access the dongle port can be found in the “Bluetooth BLE Dongle Installation” document.

If your controller sometimes connects

  1. Make sure that the dongle is plugged into the tablet properly. Unplug and replug the dongle, ensuring it is plugged into the blue USB 3.0 port on the tablet. Instructions for how to access the dongle port can be found in the “Bluetooth BLE Dongle Installation” document.
  2. Before use, hold the “play” and “minus” buttons simultaneously on the controller until the blue light starts to flash. This will ensure that the controller is ready to connect with the unit. Note that it can take up to 30 seconds to connect.
  3. Try updating the sleep timer on the controller using the “Updating your Bluetooth Sleep Timer Setting” instructions.

If your controller loses connection in the middle of use

  1. If the controller is connecting with no issues initially and then losing connection mid-day, the issue is likely the built-in sleep timer. Update the controller sleep timer using the “Updating your Bluetooth Sleep Timer Setting” instructions.
